Privacy Policy
- No accounts. You never sign up, and we do not know who you are.
- Your data is yours. Reminders, lists, recipes and medications are stored on your device and, if iCloud is on, in your own iCloud. We run no servers that store them.
- No ads, no tracking, no selling of data.
- Anonymous usage statistics. The app counts which features are used, never what you wrote.
Who is responsible for your data
Checkmeck is developed and published by Fatih Köker, Sweden. Questions about this policy or your data go to fatih.koker@outlook.com.
What you enter in the app
Everything you create in Checkmeck – reminders, to-do lists, shopping lists, recipes, medications and dose logs, packing lists, places, attachments and settings – is stored locally on your device.
If you are signed in to iCloud, your data is synced between your own devices through Apple's iCloud (CloudKit), in your private iCloud database. Only you can access it there; we cannot read it. Apple's handling is described in Apple's privacy policy. You can turn iCloud off for Checkmeck in the iOS Settings; the app then works locally only.
When you share a list with someone, it happens through iCloud sharing. The list and what is put in it become visible to the people you invite, and Apple shows them your name as set in iCloud. You can stop sharing a list, or leave a shared list, at any time.
Likes on recipe templates
Checkmeck's own recipe templates have a heart that shows how many people like the recipe. When you like a template, a record is saved in Checkmeck's public iCloud database. It holds the recipe's id, a timestamp and a one-way hash of your iCloud user id – never your name, your e-mail address or anything other users could tie to you. Your own recipes and your bookmarks are private and never leave your iCloud.
Permissions you can grant
Checkmeck asks for a permission only when you use the feature that needs it. You can change each permission in the iOS Settings.
- Notifications – to remind you. Notifications are scheduled on the device. The app also receives silent push signals from iCloud to fetch changes to synced and shared data.
- Alarms and timers (iOS 26 and later) – for urgent reminders and recipe timers through Apple's alarm feature.
- Location – in two ways, both optional. For the weather on Home your approximate location (kilometre accuracy) is used, only while the app is open; see Weather below. For place reminders the app asks for Always access so that iOS can wake it when you arrive at or leave a place you chose. iOS only reports that the boundary was crossed. Checkmeck never stores where you have been and never sends your location anywhere.
- Calendar – to show your events in Plan and, if you choose, add a reminder to Apple Calendar. The content never leaves the device.
- Reminders (Apple) – only to import reminders you select.
- Camera and photos – to photograph an attachment or read a recipe. Pictures are read on the device (Apple's text recognition) and are never sent to any server. Pictures you keep become part of your data as described above.
- Microphone and speech recognition – for dictation into text fields. Recognition happens on the device only; the app never records and never sends audio anywhere.
Weather
The weather on Home comes from Apple Weather (WeatherKit). Once you have chosen to show weather, your approximate location is sent to Apple to fetch the forecast; Checkmeck does not store it. Apple describes its handling in the WeatherKit terms.
Recipe import and translation
When you import a recipe from a web address, the app fetches that page for you, without cookies and without signing in. The site's owner sees an ordinary page request from your device. Recipe translation uses Apple's translation feature in iOS, under Apple's terms. No servers of ours are involved.
Anonymous usage statistics
To understand which features are used, Checkmeck counts events such as reminder created, item added to shopping list or widget opened. Each event contains:
- the event's name and, for some events, a few fixed properties (for example whether a reminder repeats, or how an item was added),
- the app's version and build number, and the time,
- a random installation id made by the app, so we can see whether an installation comes back.
Events never contain text you wrote, product names, list names, recipes, places, your name, your e-mail address, your Apple Account, the device's name or any advertising identifier. The app's code cannot technically send free text as statistics, and the server rejects anything not in a fixed list of events.
Events are sent over an encrypted connection to a database we run at Supabase. We only look at aggregated numbers. The statistics are not used for advertising, not shared with others and never sold. They cannot currently be turned off in the app; if you want the events from your installation deleted, contact us.
In-app purchases (Checkmeck+)
Subscriptions and one-time purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never receive your name, address or payment details. The app only reads Apple's receipt to unlock Checkmeck+.
Children
Checkmeck is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data about children.
Your rights
Because your data lives on your device and in your own iCloud, you are in full control: you can read, change, export and delete it in the app. Deleting the app and its iCloud data (Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Storage) removes it. Under the GDPR you also have the right to know what data we process, to have it corrected or erased, and to complain to your data protection authority (in Sweden, IMY). Write to the address below and we will help.
Changes
If this policy changes we update this page and the date at the top. For material changes we say so in the app.
